What Is The Causes OF Bulimia

As with anorexia, there is currently no definite known cause of bulimia. Because of the complexity of the disorder, researchers within the medical and psychological fields continue to explore its dynamics.

Bulimia is generally felt to begin with a dissatisfaction of the person's body. The individual may actually be underweight, but when the person looks in a mirror they see a distorted image and feel heavier than they really are. At first, this distorted body image leads to dieting. As the body image in the mirror continues to be seen as larger than it actually is, the dieting escalates and can lead to bulimic practices.

In certain neurological or medical conditions, there can be disturbed eating behavior, but the essential psychological feature of bulimia, the extreme concern with body shape and weight, is not present. For example, overeating is a common feature in depression, however, these individuals do not engage in inappropriate weight-loss behaviors and are not overly concerned with body image and weight loss as is characteristic of the person with bulimia.

Organic causes for bulimia are being investigated. There is evidence that bulimia and other eating disorders may be related to abnormalities in levels of chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) within the brain, specifically the neurotransmitterserotonin. Other studies of people with bulimia have found alterations in metabolic rate, decreased perceptions of satiety, and abnormal neuroendocrine regulation (the process by which the nervous system interacts with production of hormones and hormone-like substances).

WHY ARE BULIMICS MAINLY WOMEN?

In my opinion, women are more vulnerable to disease because of normal for every woman to look slim and beautiful. Therefore, bulimia becomes their choice to lean with the twinkling of an eye. For example, symptoms of bulimia is like fashion among celebrity women in Hollywood. Symptoms lean viewed most influenced by television. Such as actress Christina Ricci, Teri Hatcher and Lindsay Lohan had problems associated with bulimia. In their lean mean sexy, beautiful style and even fatal. Among this problem different causes was adolescent women are particularly vulnerable, having a female body in this society can be frightening, women are expected to control their emotions and women are frustrated in the work place.

WHAT IS BULIMIA?

Bulimia nervosa (buh-LEE-me-ah nur-VOH-suh), often called bulimia, is a type of eating disorder. A person with bulimia eats a lot of food in a short amount of time (binging) and then tries to prevent weight gain by getting rid of the food (purging).
Purging might be done by:
Making yourself throw up
Taking laxatives (pills or liquids that speed up the movement of food through your body and lead to a bowel movement)

A person with bulimia feels he or she cannot control the amount of food eaten. Also, bulimics might exercise a lot, eat very little or not at all, or take pills to pass urine often to prevent weight gain.

Unlike anorexia, people with bulimia can fall within the normal range for their age and weight. But like people with anorexia, bulimics:
Fear gaining weight
Want desperately to lose weight
Are very unhappy with their body size and shape

Many people think that eating disorders affect only young, upper-class White females. It is true that most bulimics are women (around 85-90 percent). But bulimia affects people from all walks of life, including males, women of color, and even older women. It is not known for sure whether African American, Latina, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian and Alaska Native people develop eating disorders because American culture values thin people. People with different cultural backgrounds may develop eating disorders because it’s hard to adapt to a new culture (a theory called “culture clash”). The stress of trying to live in two different cultures may cause some minorities to develop their eating disorders.

Simple survey about bulimia

Question
what is bulimia ?
why do people become bulimia?
what the causes bulimia and aneroxia ?
Why bulimia mainly women?
what can do to help them?

With this questions we us do simple survey to know about bulimia.. For the first question about the meaning bulimia. I do some research about meaning bulimia and I get the meaning on internet.

Second question, there is no easy answer to this question. Just as the life of every individual is unique, so are the reasons why they become bulimic and the paths they must take to overcome it.

There is currently no definite known cause of bulimia. Researchers believe it begins with dissatisfaction of the person’s body and extreme concern with body size and shape. Usually individuals suffering from bulimia have low self-esteem, feelings of helplessness and a fear of becoming fat

Next question Women’s sexuality is exploited, their intelligence questioned, their roles limited and often confusing. They are bombarded with promises of a “better self” through the dieting, fashion, cosmetics and anti-aging industries. Most women feel unsupported by a culture with such shallow values! They want and deserve something more something that gives their lives meaning in a deeper way. It is this role within this society which is at different times limiting, confusing, frightening, and unfulfilling, that propels enormous numbers of women into the safety and numbness of food problems.

For the last question, I get in internet. There are many tips and many good treatments for bulimia. It’s can help you feel better and eat normally again, even if you are had bulimia for long time. There are two treatments for bulimia. It is psychotherapy and medication. Then cognitive behavioral therapyis one the best psychotherapy treatments stop bingeing. Antidepressants can help treat bulimia but they can have side effect. Aside that a drug called topiramate also seems to help people with bulimia.

Em.. now , when do this research, I can know about bulimia. So bulimia is a dangerous of extreame diet.

About our group topic..

Mostly teenagers suffers an eating disorder. Often occurs during adolescence ( between age 11 – 20 ). 10 million females and I million are fighting a life and death battle with an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. Approximately 25 million more are struggling with binge eating disorder.

Eating disorder Is a condition which affects an individuals eating habits, either as a result or their own doing ( self –inflicted) , or as a bodily reaction to the consumption of food. Eating disorders can range from mild mental aguish to life – threatening conditions and can affect every aspect of an individuals daily life.

5%– 7% of females in the United States during their lifetimes and “approximately 10% of eating disordered individuals coming to the attention of mental health professionals are male”

When you want to lose weight, you may be tempted to try extreme diets to accelerate your success. One extreme diet is the Atkins diet which encourages followers to eat a diet full of protein. This plan also limits the amount of carbohydrates that the dieter can eat. If you try the Atkins plan, you may see results within the first couple of weeks with a drop in your weight, but you will also experience some side effects from the lack of carbohydrates such as a lack of memory and shakiness. To achieve long term weight loss success, you do not need to resort to such drastic diet measures. There are many other ways in incorporate healthy options into your diet without depriving your body of needed nutrients and experiencing side effects. Some people may be able to adjust their diet on their own while others may need some additional education or the assistance of a weight loss coach. For individuals who are considered obsess, there are also surgical options to aid in their weight loss. These surgeries also have consequences which include the inability for your body to absorb needed minerals and vitamins. If a surgical weight loss option is chosen, then be sure to follow all medical instructions to make sure that your body does benefit from the weight loss and has everything it needs in terms of vitamins and minerals. You may also want to consider an over the counter weight loss supplement. When choosing one of these supplements, talk with your doctor first. Doctors will typically advise you to adjust your diet and not take these supplements which can sometimes cause side effects such as increased heart rate or loss of appetite.

In conclusion, bulimia is very dangerous diet. While these behaviors may not be clinically considered a full syndrome eating disorder, they can still be physically dangerous and emotionally draining. So i give some photos about bulima.

About Myself

Add Image

Hey, this is our group blog, so I have to say something about myself. Sometimes it is hard to introduce yourself because you know yourself so well that you do not know where to start with. Let me give a try to see what kind of image you have about me through my self-description. I hope that my impression about myself and your impression about me are not so different. Here it goes.

My name is P.Akilla. I am married and have two kids. I am working as teacher almost 10 years. I am a person who is positive about every aspect of life. There are many things I like to do, to see, and to experience. I like to read, I like to write; I like to think, I like to dream; I like to talk, I like to listen. I like to see the sunrise in the morning, I like to see the moonlight at night; I like to feel the music flowing on my face.

I like flowers in spring, rain in summer, leaves in autumn, and snow in winter. I like to sleep early. I like delicious food and comfortable shoes; I like good books and romantic movies. I like the land and the nature, I like people. And, I like to laugh.

I always wanted to be a great writer. They have influenced millions of people through their books. I also wanted to be a great psychologist, like William James or Sigmund Freud, who could read people’s mind. .

This is a brief introduction of myself. If you are interested in knowing more. Do not expect too much, and keep your sense of humor.
